Exploring the world through the web

Experiencing life in any way you can.

Found a new home! July 16, 2012

For a long time I felt all blogged out, Postaday 2011 used up all my blog ideas and words and I was starting to feel like I was trying to find topics to write about and I didn’t want to pollute the web with unnecessary words, so I went quiet, left my keyboard alone (well sort of) and did some creative writing instead; but now I’m back: but I’ve found a new home over at http://clairewade.com I’d love it if you came over and checked it out!

I feel inspired again after a very long time and I’m eager to get back to blogging, maybe not every single day, Postaday was truly hardcore; but certainly once a week if not more, depending on when inspiration strikes. So if you have enjoyed what you you’ve read here, find more of it here…

Long time no write! April 26, 2012

Sorry I have been a bit quiet recently, I haven’t vanished into thin air, well not completely! I’ve been fairly overwhelmed with life – I think I may have been a bit overambitious with the number of projects I’ve taken on! Problem is there all things I really, really, really want to do! And they all have time limits on them so I have to do them now or not at all….

Mum and I went away for a long weekend to Bury, which was brilliant; but exhausting. A shock to still find that I can’t travel more than about an hour in a car without getting a symptom flare up. It was still nice to get away, even if we spent most of the time in the hotel room. We did discover an amazing vine yard – Wiken Vineyard. Now I’m not into wine; but they had an incredible farmer’s market and they did breakfasts that were out of this world!!! I had blueberry pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and hot chocolate. Wow that’s making my mouth water just remembering it…

Award winning hot chocolate at Wiken Vineyard. I was too hungry to wait to take a picture of my blueberry pancakes!

I took a social media break while we were away – my first in about ten years, I didn’t even look at texts! It was weird not blogging and I kept thinking of things I wanted to paste on Facebook; but it was also kind of nice to be present in the moment. It made me decide to take a break from blogging daily as I was running out of things to say – who’d have thought it?!!!

I have kept up writing though, I’ve gone back to my novel and set myself the goal to write daily which I’m loving; but writing this post has reminded me how much I also love blogging. I thought creative writing/fiction was what I needed; but I think I’ve realised I need to do both. So here’s to blogging at least once a weeek. 🙂

Blessing 81 – Blog comments and getting more traffic March 21, 2012

I love writing my blog, being able to write down my thoughts and realise just how many people feel the same as I do. Connecting with other people has been one of the best things that has come from starting my blog.

I’ve recently been part of a Buzz Building Blog Game for the second blog I keep for Holidays From Home, which has been fun it’s directed so many more people to my site, people who wouldn’t normally know about Holidays From Home and what I do. The feedback I’ve got from the group has been incredible. Not only are people incredibly supportive and positive – one of the conditions of the group is that you have to comment on other people’s posts in a positive manner; but that’s not difficult because the other blogs are amazing. I’ve been led to some amazing articles I’d never have found otherwise and they all seem to come at the perfect time. I’ve learnt so much and been so inspired, it’s incredible. I love that all this great content is out there, you just have to find it.

Blessing 24 – Blog Love – Versatile Blogger Award January 24, 2012

I’d like to thank WordPress, my family, my trusty laptop, the wonderful people who read my blog, Red Jim for my nomination. Sob! Pass me the tissues… 😉

It’s called the Versatile Blogger Award; but I think it really translates as “Writes about lots of random things award”. I definitely qualify for that! It is lovely to get recognition and has made me feel very smiley. I am a bit wary that like Red Jim says it’s some kind of pyramid sales/chain letter type experience; but if it promotes other good blogs then it’s a great thing. It does mean I have to nominate 15 blogs and while I read a few, I never have enough energy to read as many as I would like to.

I also have to tell you seven things about me, so here goes:-

  1. I love crystals.
  2. I enjoy sci-fi fantasy books / television / films.
  3. I hate coffee, since my severe ME gave me bad nausea I’ve felt sick at just the smell. I feel very left out now there are lots of cool coffees to try.
  4. My first pets were stick insects.
  5. I’m allergic to animal fur (hence the stick insects).
  6. I’m a reiki master.
  7. Roses are my favourite flower.

These are my fifteen nominations, as they say on Big Brother, they’re in no particular order. Nominees you can see the rules here…

I’m off now to tell everyone…

2011 in review January 3, 2012

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog. I thought I’d post it here. Thank you to everyone that helped me reach these stats. I can’t believe the blog had over 9,000 views! Amazing and very rewarding.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Blessing Blog 1. Virtual Party Friends. January 1, 2012

I decided that this year I would blog each day about one thing in my life I’m grateful for, a person, a place, an event, whatever I can think of on the day that I want to acknowledge and appreciate. Today I can think of about five different things straight away that I want to blog about; but I’m going to start with my friends, specifically the ten amazing people who took part in my virtual New Year’s Eve party last night. Some I knew before, others I met for the first time last night; but it didn’t matter how well we knew each other, because we all had a wonderful time.Virtual shopping in New York, choosing clothes and diamonds, then a party with cocktails, canapes and virtual fireworks!

It was better than I could ever have imagined and we had such a good time. In fact it was the best  NYE I’ve ever had. Normally an anti climax, yesterday was definitely not. We chatted via Facebook, listened to my radio show and I just felt so connected and supported, not alone, which is how I can often feel during events and holidays. I was joined by people from three different continents and that was awesome! Literally I was filled with awe. The power of technology at work.

The comment that people kept making was that they weren’t sure if they should join in at first, because they normally just ignore NYE; but how much they enjoyed it, which was so rewarding to hear. It’s definitely encouraged me to pursue the idea this year. It would be amazing to do them with more people; but it was a challenge to keep up with the conversation when there was ten of us, so not sure how I’d do it differently; but it’s something to think about.

I know Holidays From Home, my virtual holidays and parties aren’t for everyone, that’s something I came to terms with in 2011; but the people who get them are “my people”, “my tribe” so to speak and they are incredible, precious diamonds, that I can’t wait to get to know better in 2012 and hopefully meet even more of them. I know they’re out there, now my mission for 2012 is to connect with them, to share the joy of life and our determination to that adversity will not stop us having fun!

Blogging everyday for a year – my progress! December 31, 2011

Technically I didn’t start Postaday2011 until the first week of January, when I heard about it; but now seemed like a good date to look back over the year. It’s been really fun to do. There have been a few panicked “oh no it’s nearly midnight” moments and a few technology fails; but I have posted every single day and I’m really proud of myself. I’ve never before set myself such a big challenge and one that I could so easily measure my success.

I only signed up for postaweek; but was so enthused by it, that I was writing every day – to think I’d have missed 6/7 ths of all the fun! I’m so glad I jumped in with both feet! There were times I struggled to find a topic and days when there was so much I wanted to write about that I had to post more than once. Some of the topic suggestions inspired me, while others left me cold and looking for my own ideas. I’ve enjoyed the fun frivolous topics and the ones that have made me analyse myself and my views on the world.

I feel I’ve grown as a person keeping this blog, I’ve learnt about myself and I’ve realised that I thrive with goals, deadlines and challenges. I also remembered how much I love to write and I was introduced to the wonderful and exciting world of NaNoWriMo which is one of the best things I’ve ever done. I would never have found out about it had it not been for postaday. I never considered a future in writing when I was at school and now I know that it has to be part of my life somehow!

Blogging is now a way of life and I won’t be able to stop in January even if I wanted to! 2011 has been full of surprises and I know with 100% certainty that 2012 won’t be any different. I look forward to the next adventures!

Thank you to all the lovely people who have read my blog, those who have just stopped by once and those who have supported me through out. I love reading your comments and seeing the little likes on the screen. I didn’t start the blog to be read by others, I didn’t think anyone would be interested; but I have felt my world expand with each new person that has come into it, no matter how long or short a time that may have been for. I look forward to getting to know you all better in 2012.

I hope the new year brings you health, wealth and happiness.

Lots of love

Claire
