I can’t believe that it’s nearly over, the last three weeks have gone by in a complete blur and in some ways it feels much, much longer. It’s amazing what you can achieve in just a few weeks if you’re determined and get down to it. More than I thought possible in a year!
I’ve learnt so much about myself, my writing and my abilities this month, maybe more than I normally do in six months or longer. It’s been incredible. I’ve discovered I like challenges, I work best when I have a deadline and I need goals, like specific word count targets to work to. Once I hit 50,000 my focused drive has slipped slightly, so I’m back to setting myself a target. Ideally I’d like to have two 50,000 novels by the end of November; but since I’m up to 76,529 words, I’ve got about 23,500 words to do in a week. Not impossible; but I’m fighting off a cough and it’s slowing me down. I do feel more motivated now that I’ve provisionally set myself the challenge. Either way I’ll get more done than leaving it open-ended.
I’ve had more fun doing NaNo than I’ve had in a long time and it really does feel like the start of an important chapter in my life.
